ABOUT
OUR MISSION
We believe that far-reaching digitization of the construction sector is an indispensable link to the improvement of the quality of our built environment.
Digitalization is not a goal in itself but rather to make the process of design, engineering, realisation and the maintaining of our built environment smarter and more effective and thereby create added value for all those involved. This digitalization is not only important for the sector but it also requires new knowledge, insight and skills from the engineers of the future. The sharing of knowledge is hence key.
Developments in the field of digitalisation both within and outside the construction sector are moving very quickly. The lab was founded as a forerunner of digital technologies within the sector. This allows us to respond to the needs and questions from the market and continuous attention is paid to keeping the curricula up to date in the field of digitization of the BBE programmes. (Architecture, Civil Engineering and Construction Management & Real Estate)
OUR APPROACH
In the lab together with students, teaching staff and companies from the sector is being looked into and worked on relevant technological digitization issues that fit within the focus areas of the lab. The developed knowledge is made publicly available as much as possible. With this, the lab aims to make a valuable contribution to helping further digitize the sector. Furthermore, based on working on these technological questions we continuously try to determine which knowledge and skills in the field of digitization are relevant to include in the curricula of the BBE programmes to continue to educate the engineers of the future.

WHO WE ARE
The LAB is part of Hogeschool Inholland. It was set up in May 2020 from the cluster BBE (Architecture, Civil Engineering and Construction Management & Real Estate) and is located on the campus of Inholland Alkmaar. The initiators and conductors of the lab are Joost Weijers and Ramon Vlaar. Both have a background in -, experience with-and passion for digitization of construction. On top of that various students of the courses Architecture, Civil Engineering and Construction management & real estate participate with a passion for digitalisation in this and every year.
